Welcome to JoinMeal. These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) govern your access to and use of JoinMeal, including our mobile application, website (if any), in-app chat, related features, and customer support (collectively, the “Service”).
By tapping “Agree”, registering, logging in, or otherwise using the Service, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please stop using the Service.
These Terms should be read together with our Privacy Policy and Ads & Data Use Notice (if applicable). For personal data handling, the Privacy Policy prevails. The Ads & Data Use Notice (if applicable) supplements the Privacy Policy for advertising, promotions, and recommendations.
“User” or “you” means any individual who registers for or uses the Service.
“HKUST” means The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
“Group order / Order pooling” means a user-organized arrangement where users coordinate to place an order together and/or pick up food together for the purpose of meeting free-delivery or discount thresholds, or similar benefits.
“Content” means any information you post, send, display, upload, or otherwise provide through the Service, including group order information, text, images, location, time, chat messages, comments, and feedback.
“Third Party” means any party or service not controlled by us, including food delivery platforms, restaurants/merchants, couriers, payment institutions, advertising partners, and other third-party services.
“Partner Merchants/Partners” means third parties that cooperate with us on co-marketing, promotions, advertising, analytics, or other collaborations.
JoinMeal primarily provides tools for posting information, searching, matching, and communication to help HKUST students initiate or join group orders. Users are responsible for arranging ordering, payment, pickup, cost sharing, and dispute handling among themselves.
We are not a food delivery platform, restaurant/merchant, courier, or payment service provider. We do not provide any payment or escrow functionality, and we do not process, hold, collect, or remit user funds on your behalf.
You understand and agree that:
We may introduce or adjust value-added features in the future (e.g., more efficient matching, priority exposure, offline assistance). If any feature involves fees, subscriptions, or one-time purchases, we will display applicable pricing and rules on the relevant pages and it will take effect only after your confirmation.
The Service is currently intended for HKUST enrolled students only. We may require verification using an HKUST email address and may request additional proof when necessary (e.g., enrollment status) to maintain service quality and safety.
You represent that the information you provide is true, accurate, complete, and kept up to date.
You are responsible for safeguarding your account and verification information. Except as required by law, activities conducted through your account will be deemed to be done by you. If you notice suspicious activity, contact us immediately at info@receipt-fly.com.
We may restrict, suspend, or terminate all or part of the Service to you for reasonable reasons including compliance, security, risk control, and anti-abuse.
You agree not to engage in any of the following (including but not limited to):
Violating Hong Kong laws or applicable regulations, or infringing others’ rights (including intellectual property, privacy, or reputation rights).
Fraud, inducing transfers, impersonation, fake group orders, malicious no-shows, harassment, threats, or other improper conduct.
Posting unlawful, harmful, obscene, hateful, discriminatory, violent, or spam/advertising content.
Interfering with normal operation of the Service (scraping, reverse engineering, bypassing restrictions, injecting malicious code, etc.).
Violating campus rules or creating safety risks during on-campus pickup/delivery/meetups.
We may take reasonable actions against violating Content or accounts (e.g., removing Content, limiting features, banning accounts, preserving evidence, and disclosing necessary information to law enforcement or relevant parties where required or permitted by law).
You understand that group ordering and offline pickup may involve risks, including refusal to pay, lateness, loss of contact, order cancellation or errors, unsatisfactory food, and escalation of disputes.
We do not provide collection codes, payment channels, escrow, or trustee services. Any transfer of money between you and other users is independent of the Service.
You should decide independently whether to join a group order and keep necessary evidence (e.g., chat logs, transfer records, order screenshots) to handle disputes on your own.
The Service may offer in-app chat, messaging, comments, and image upload features. You are responsible for the Content you post or send and you confirm you have the rights to post such Content (including any required authorization, licenses, or consents).
To protect the platform and users, handle complaints and disputes, and perform compliance, risk control, and content governance, you agree that we may, to the extent reasonably necessary:
You understand that moderation and safety review are intended to reduce risk and improve compliance and do not constitute endorsement, verification, or guarantees regarding any user, information, or transaction, nor do they replace your own judgment.
We may provide reporting channels or handling mechanisms. You understand and agree that we may decide, at our discretion, whether to remove, restrict visibility of, or retain Content (including for legal compliance or evidence preservation for disputes).
You understand that we may provide personalized recommendations based on your usage (e.g., nearby group orders, restaurants/categories you may be interested in, trending orders).
You understand that we may display advertisements within the Service (including third-party ads and our own promotional content) and may conduct co-marketing with Partner Merchants/Partners (e.g., promotions, events, sponsored content).
To enable recommendations and advertising delivery/measurement, we may use or share certain data, following a data-minimization principle. Details (including data categories, recipients, and opt-out options) are described in the Privacy Policy and Ads & Data Use Notice.
We collect and process personal data in accordance with the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (PDPO) and applicable laws. Our Privacy Policy describes purposes, transfers, retention, and access/correction channels.
You understand we may collect and process the following (depending on permissions and usage):
We may use the above data for: providing and maintaining the Service, matching and notifications, risk control and anti-fraud, customer support and dispute handling, compliance audits, analytics and improvements, personalized recommendations, advertising, and co-marketing (further detailed in the Privacy Policy).
You may request access to and correction of your personal data under the PDPO. We may request identity verification and may charge a reasonable fee where permitted by law. Please email info@receipt-fly.com.
The Service may include third-party information, offers, links, or redirects. Any transactions, disputes, refunds, or claims between you and a Third Party are handled between you and that Third Party.
We do not guarantee the availability, quality, security, or legality of Third-Party services.
The Service, including software, UI, trademarks, logos, algorithms, and related materials, are owned by us or our licensors. You may not copy, distribute, or use them for commercial purposes without permission, except as permitted by law.
You retain your rights in your Content. However, you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free, sublicensable license to use your Content to operate, maintain, improve, promote, and protect the Service (e.g., displaying group order information to other users, safety review and risk control, statistics and analytics, handling complaints and disputes). You must not upload Content you do not have the right to share, and you must not upload content containing others’ personal data without lawful authorization/consent (e.g., identity documents, private contact details), unless necessary for the Service and compliant with applicable law.
The Service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We do not warrant uninterrupted service, error-free operation, complete security, or fitness for a particular purpose.
We are not responsible for (including but not limited to):
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot be excluded or limited under Hong Kong law (e.g., liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence).
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, punitive, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, loss of goodwill, loss of data, or costs of substitute services.
To the extent permitted by law, our total liability to you arising out of or in connection with the Service will not exceed the lower of:
You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from and against claims, losses, liabilities, damages, and reasonable expenses (including legal fees) arising from or related to your breach of these Terms, unlawful or infringing conduct, disputes with other users or Third Parties, or your Content.
You may stop using the Service at any time. As we currently do not provide an in-app account deletion feature, if you wish to delete your account, please contact us at info@receipt-fly.com (we may require identity verification).
We may suspend or terminate the Service or your access if you violate these Terms, if there are security/compliance risks, or for reasonable operational needs.
After termination, provisions that by their nature should survive will remain in effect, including intellectual property, content license, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnity, and dispute resolution.
We may update these Terms from time to time and notify you via in-app notice, announcements, or other reasonable means. If you continue to use the Service after the update becomes effective, you will be deemed to have accepted the updated Terms. If you do not agree, you should stop using the Service.
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the HKSAR. Any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms or the Service shall first be resolved through good-faith negotiation. If negotiation fails, the dispute shall be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Hong Kong courts.
